Getting in was the easy part; staying, however, is a totally different matter. Good luck! :)
“MANYAK”
For some strange reason, I love this word. Maybe it’s because of its funny/scary meaning, or the way your tongue snaps on the top of your palette to provide that lutong emphasis on manYAK, or maybe because everyone, at one point or another, has had an experience with one. Whatever the reason is, benta sa akin! =)) So when my bestfriend, Anezka Chua(twitter.com/akzena), who currently resides in Canada, replaced a word in a song with “manyak”, I knew there had to be a Twitter hashtag for this. Being the typical madaming alam kind of Twits, we attempted to get it to trend at around 12-1pm on August 1, 2011.
(sorry for the really crappy screenshots, I forgot that MS Paint produces the worst jpegs EVER. :()

The conversation that started it all

The series of tweets that my followers barely paid attention to

A lot of people had the same idea for ‘The Manyak Who Can’t Be Moved’ but Anezka was first!
Only a few minutes into the effort to get “#replaceawordinasongwithmanyak” to trend, we had given up. Not enough people were online nor interested to take part of our kagaguhan. In short, we had failed. (Drama noh? AHAHAHAHA)
Later in the evening though, in an attempt to escape studying for my Chem LT, I posted a few new tweets with the hashtag and retweeted what Anezka had posted early on.

Take 2
In a matter of minutes, the whole manyak thing had snowballed and quickly reached a lot of people’s twitter feeds. Basically everybody, follower of mine or not, had something to contribute or retweet. It was like I had poisoned the Twitter well, and I damn well enjoyed it. I truly am grateful for all my Twitter friends and followers who participated the moment they saw the hashtag but there were some co-pioneers that were just hands down hilarious! They were one of the first to use #replaceawordinasongwithmanyak and just kept the humor flowing. FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY HEART, THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU! ♥

We had struck Trending Topic gold. Strangers all over the country were using my hashtag and I knew we were on the verge of trending topic status when Erica(@ericadenisedy) told me that #replaceawordinasongwithmanyak had reached celebrities Lauren Young(@loyoung) and Sam Concepcion(@sam_concepcion), with the former even retweeting me specifically. OH MY GOD.

Thank you, guys. Seriously! THANK YOU. (Close kami? HAHAHAHA)
And then the awaited moment arrived…

After 3 hours of endless manyak tweets, #replaceawordinasongwithmanyak officially debuted at the second spot (excluding the promoted TT) at around 12:10am, August 2, 2011. 15 hours later, the trending topic remains strong, enjoying the number one position and even getting ‘MANYAK’ in the mix.

WE’RE NUMBER ONE! WE’RE NUMBER ONE! :)
The hashtag was featured as one of the top trends on http://www.whatthetrend.com and also on the local blog ‘Pinoy Social Media’, which covered a bit of how all this hullabaloo started.
